During his service in the military, he served at a number of different bases in both Korea and Vietnam at various stages. He was stationed in both countries at separate times. Not only did he take pleasure in serving as a coach and referee at a number of different levels of youth soccer competition in Germany, but he also took pleasure in officiating games when they were actually being played.
