Hans Harlos Obituary, Death – Dr. Hans Harlos passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022, while he was surrounded by his loved ones and cherished friends. It is with great sadness that we share the news of his passing with you all. Mary Lisa, his wife and constant companion on their travels, would miss him very much because he was truly loved by her and she cherished the time they spent together.
Hans has always cherished his children, Nic and Racine, and found immense joy in his precious grandchildren, Loo Loo and Gypsy. Additionally, Hans has always adored his stepchildren, Samantha and Richard. Hans has always taken a great deal of pride in his children. In addition to being a devoted uncle to his cherished nieces and nephews, he is a proud son to his mother Irma (Oma), brother to Bill, Ursula, and Dieter, and Hans placed a high value on his position as a family physician in the community of Elmvale, as he had previously done in the community of Collingwood. It was clear to him that each of his patients was a unique individual with important needs, and he took great satisfaction in meeting those needs.
He regarded his work as a vocation. Because Hans was such a talented clinician, his absence will leave a significant void not only in the medical community but also for his individual patients. Hans embodied the phrase “larger than life.” He had a passion for exploration and athletics, and he was the type of person who enthusiastically accepted new challenges. Anyone who has ever skied with Hans has heard his mantra, “there are no friends on powder days.” He loved to snowboard, especially at his beloved chalet at Whistler, and anyone who has ever skied with Hans has heard this mantra.
When he wasn’t working with powder, Hans spent his time with his countless friends, each of whom he cherished and for whom he held an extremely unique and significant place in his heart. He had a lot of fun hosting get-togethers at the cabin on Orr Lake for his friends and family. He was a dedicated participant at the squash club he belonged to and was rarely absent from a match. He was an avid golfer and, over the years, he and his friends have played the sport while on vacation in many different countries.
Hans had a strong interest in traveling throughout his life, and as a result, he went to quite a few different countries. All of us who have had the privilege of traveling with him will forever remember our time with him as one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. His overpowering passion and enthusiasm for life, his love of people, his unforgettable laugh, and the pure joy he derived from things like besting his pals in a game of cards or discovering a really good sale are things that will never be forgotten.
