John Michael Death, Obituary – The loss of Spc. John Michael De Leon has put us in a state of mourning that words cannot adequately describe. According to Colonel Jon Harvey, who commanded the 18th Field Artillery Brigade, “During his two years of service with his unit, John Michael was a member of the combat medical team.” Because of the significant part that he played in our Steel Family, his passing will be keenly felt by each and every one of us. We are keeping his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, especially given how close we are getting to the holiday season. This is a horrible loss for everyone involved.
Spc. De Leon, who was born and reared in San Antonio, Texas, enlisted in the 18th Field Artillery Brigade and served in the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery. During his time in the military, he was awarded the Purple Heart (HHB). Captain Thomas Sujack, who was in charge of the HHB, had the following to say about Private First Class John Michael De Leon: “Selfless, energetic, devoted, and a superb colleague are just a few of the characteristics that distinguish Private First Class John Michael De Leon.” “As we mourn the passing of our fellow soldier and friend, we will remember and honor him as the extraordinary family man, soldier, son, and medic that he was.
For the past two years, having him on our squad has been an incredible blessing, and we will never stop counting ourselves among the truly lucky. During this trying time, we want his family and friends to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers. Spc. De Leon enlisted in the United States Army in November 2019 with the objective of working his way up to the position of combat medic.
