Pat Becker Death, Obituary – Mary “Pat” Becker, who was 81 years old and lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family. Pat Kinder was the daughter of Josephine and Michael Kinder and was born on June 29th, 1941 in the city of Fort Wayne. She received her diploma from Central Catholic High School in 1959, and then went on to study mathematics at Mount St. Mary’s College in Milwaukee, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree, and University of St. Francis, where she received her Master of Arts degree.
She began her career in education at Lake Fenton Middle and High Schools in Michigan, which is located in the U.S. Later on in his career, Pat became a teacher at the University of St. Francis, IPFW, Jefferson Middle School, and Blackhawk Middle School. Her last teaching job was at Bishop Dwenger High School, where she worked for a total of 19 years. Pat was actively involved in a large number of professional groups, some of which include Friends of PFW, Parkview Senior Club, and the American Association of University Women, where she served as an Honorary Life Member for 50 years.
She offered her time for a variety of organizations, including those affiliated with the St. Jude parish and Bishop Dwenger, as well as other places where she saw opportunities to assist others. While Pat was a student at Central Catholic High School, she initially met Joseph “Tony” Becker. The couple did not begin dating until 1968 and did not get married until 1970. They ultimately welcomed into the world David (Kim) Becker of Fort Wayne and Mary Johnson of Fort Wayne as their children. They have nine grandkids, Dakota Becker, Bradley (Jeannie) Becker, Ashley Roberts, Michael Becker, Jason Becker, Matthew Becker, Christopher Owens, Amare Owens, and Abigail Becker of Fort Wayne.
They have one great-grandchild, who resides in Fort Wayne and is named Aubrey Becker. Pat took her retirement from teaching in 2004, and after that she pursued a variety of activities, including gardening, observing birds, and reading. She was also a voracious reader. In addition to that, she was a participant in the Shoaff Park Women’s 9-Hole Tuesday Morning Golf League. Pat carried on her family’s tradition of education by working as a substitute teacher and providing extra help to children. Her most favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren and take part in all of the activities and events that they participated in.
Pat is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tony Becker; her brother, Tom Kinder, who is married to Joni and lives in Fort Wayne; and her sister, Anne Kinder Knupke, who is married to Paul and lives in Tampa. Her brother Michael Kinder passed away before she did, bringing an end to their relationship. At Saint Jude Catholic Church, located at 2130 Pemberton Drive, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Divine Mercy Funeral Home, located at 3500 Lake Avenue in Fort Wayne, will also be open for visitation on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The interment will take place in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne. In lieu of sending flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be sent to the masses held at St. Jude Catholic Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Mary “Pat” Becker Scholarship Fund held at Bishop Dwenger High School.
