Mollie Ruth Pope Death, Obituary – December 12, 2022, Mrs. Mollie Ruth Pope, also known as Momma Duce, passed away at the age of 105. She was known as “Momma Duce.” Both of those names were used to refer to her. Throughout the entirety of her life, she was mostly known by the moniker she had been given. She worked as a teacher for the black community back when schools were still segregated into separate racial categories.
She eventually handed in her resignation after working as a social worker for the Hawkins County Board of Education for a considerable amount of time before making the decision to leave her post there. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother on top of the many other roles she played in the family that required her to take on several obligations. In addition to that, she was a mother-in-law. Others in her family and neighborhood who were going through difficult times received encouragement from her, and she was a friend to those who looked up to her.
Momma Duce was a member of a variety of organizations, such as the American Legion Auxiliary, the Swift Club, the Hawkins County Retired Teacher Association, and the Hasson Street Christian Church, among others. She was predeceased by her siblings Eldridge and RC Payne, Kathleen Hoyle, Jennie Mae Kincaid, and Joanna Jones; her parents Eldridge and Fannie Lou Payne; her husband Silas Thomas Pope Sr.; her son Silas Thomas Pope Jr.; her husband; and her parents-in-law, Eldridge and Fannie Lou Payne. She is survived by her husband Silas Thomas Pope Jr.; her son Silas Thomas Pope III; and She is survived by her husband, Silas Thomas Pope Jr., as well as her parents-in-law and her son Silas Thomas Pope Jr.
She is survived by her cherished sister Ethel Rogers, as well as her son Robert Pope (and his wife Stephanie), her daughter Angela Jackson (and her husband Terry), her daughter-in-law Barbara Gaines, and her son-in-law. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Gaines and her son-in-law. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ronnie Pope, Tonya Brice, Shannon Clack, Erin Pope, Sandy Jackson, and Jamie Jackson; special step-grandchildren, Carole Williams and Angie Pope; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Ronnie Pope, Tonya Brice, Shannon Clack, Erin Pope, and Sandy Jackson are her grandchildren. Ronnie Pope, who was her spouse, passed away before she did. Not only did Rhonda Robinson, Lois Kindred, and Amanda Caldwell give excellent care, but they also did so in a compassionate manner, maintained their loyalty to the family, and supported the family members in their efforts. Because of everything they’ve done, the family would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to these three individuals.
