Christine Versluys Death, Obituary – On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, Christine Anne Versluys, age 56, who resided in Topeka, Kansas, passed away. Marianne Smentowski Berdon and Doyle Berdon welcomed their daughter Christine into the world on June 9, 1966 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Christine is their daughter. Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, is where she first met her future husband and where she went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in 1987. Christine and Ted Versluys have been happily married since June 16, 1990, which makes their total number of years together 32. In the Auburn-Washburn school district and at the Most Pure Heart of Mary School, Christine was able to share her enthusiasm for education by teaching and serving as a tutor. In addition to the numerous teaching opportunities that were available to her, she used the time she spent at Most Pure Heart of Mary to prepare kids in the second grade for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and their First Holy Communion. The idea of sharing Jesus with other people was very dear to her heart. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church was one of Christine’s regular places of worship, as she was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church as well. She was a member of the Perpetual Adoration and Ministry to the Homebound groups in addition to serving as a Eucharistic Minister. God was the primary focus of her life from the beginning.
Christine cherished her family deeply and had an immense sense of pride in regard to them. They were only second to God in importance. The following people are thankful to have been a part of Christine’s life: her husband, Ted; her children, Callie Versluys (Brent Laws), Nolan Versluys (Baylee Wells), and Garrett Versluys; her granddaughters, Addison and Phoebe; her mother, Marianne Berdon; her father, Doyle Berdon; her siblings, John Berdon (Melissa), Jim Berdon (Larry), In addition to the people on this list, Christine is survived by a huge extended family, as well as several cherished students and friends, all of whom she cherished deeply and whose lives she profoundly influenced in ways that we can only speculate about.
On Tuesday, December 20, at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, the family will meet and greet friends beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 10:30 a.m. The rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at eleven in the morning, and it will take place at the Church. Mount Calvary Cemetery will be the location of the interment.
