Larry Rywak Death, Obituary – Our hearts have been shattered today. In the comfort of his own home, Larry died away with his wife by his side. Larry leaves behind his devoted wife Sonia, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, two children, Melanie (Darrell) Wilvers and Ryan (Nissa) Rywak; two grandchildren, Kaden Sczesny and Kasia Sczesny; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brian and Roseanne Macphee and Roger and Irene Burak; and a large number of nephews and nieces. His parents, Peter and Mary Rywak, as well as his brother, John Rywak, as well as his sisters Mildred Rywak, Margaret (Sam) Iwanika, Helen (Karl) Zilinski, Ann (Steve Porfon), and Albina Hula, as well as his nephews Randy Iwanika and Dennis Porfon, and niece Kristen Burak, all passed away before Larry.
Before leaving 17 years ago, Larry put in a total of 30 years’ worth of service to the City of Edmonton. The Zoo and the Stadium where the Edmonton Elks played were two of his favorite places to work when he was in Edmonton. He held a field pass for a significant number of years! Animals were very important to Larry; for many years, he took care of six strays that lived at the Broadmoor Golf Course. The strays were always excited to see him because he brought them tasty food. Larry was a proud man; he had a deep love for his family, and they were his top priority in life, even ahead of his interest in golf. Golf was Larry’s favorite sport, and he especially enjoyed playing the game with his son Ryan and grandson Kaden.
After 25 years of service, he retired as a highly regarded Rules Official from Alberta Golf, where he had previously worked. Larry felt incredibly honored when the Broadmoor Men’s Club requested that he draft a set of rules for them to follow. Larry was always up for a challenge, and his most recent endeavor was working with wood with his brand-new scroll saw. Anything from electrical work to plumbing repairs to renovations, Larry was up for the challenge! Larry could take on any challenge thrown his him! Cooking, barbecuing, and using the smoker were also some of Larry’s favorite activities. It was especially exciting for him whenever we had guests over since he knew he could impress them with his culinary prowess.
A very special thank you goes out to Nadine, who works as a homecare nurse. During Larry’s battle with cancer, you were a tremendous support for both him and me. Also, I’d like to express my gratitude to Dr. Dusang for the care and support he’s provided to Larry.
