Oscar L. Prater Death, Obituary –Dr. Oscar L. Prater, a former president of Talladega College and a graduate of the school, passed away on December 8, 2022. Dr. Prater had also served as president of the college in the past. The community at Talladega College is experiencing widespread feelings of loss as a result of his departure. Dr. Prater was a well-known educator and administrator who was well-known for his unrelenting dedication to the betterment of historically black schools and universities. He was known as “Dr. Prater.” His unwavering commitment to the development of historically black colleges and institutions earned him a reputation for unwavering dedication.
Dr. Oscar L. Prater entered this world on February 13, 1939, in the town of Sylacauga, which is located within the state of Alabama. He was the third Prater child to be born to his parents, Ollie and Margie, who had a total of five children between them. His parents named him “Prater” after his paternal grandfather. He received his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Talladega College in the year 1961 after completing his studies there. After that, he continued his studies and received a master’s degree in the arts from Hampton University, a master’s degree in science from the College of William and Mary, and a doctorate in education from the University of Virginia.
All of these degrees are in different fields of study. He was a brother of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, which is also known as “The BoulĂ©,” in addition to his membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which he held.
