She was a former spouse of Joseph H. Silberman and was the daughter of Lena and Louis Gibelman. Her parents were Lena and Louis Gibelman. Since the couple’s wedding in 1940, which took place at the Hotel Sterling in Wilkes-Barre, the Silbermans have made Kingston, Pennsylvania, their permanent residence.

In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees of Temple Israel in Wilkes-Barre for a combined total of twenty-five years, she has served as president of both the Jewish Community Center Women’s Service Club and the Temple Israel Sisterhood. Her career in Jewish communal service began in Wilkes-Barre in the early 1970s.
For a number of years, she gave her time at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, the American Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels. During that period, she also served as a blood drive registrar for each of those organizations. While Mildred was serving as president of the Jewish Community Center’s women’s association in Wilkes-Barre for a number of years, she was honored with awards for “high average” and “high individual game.” In addition, she served in this capacity for a considerable amount of time.
