Stephen Garavilla Death, Obituary – The news that one of Wakefield’s great legends, Stephen de Garavilla, passed away this week while he was accompanied by his family after a protracted battle to recover from a significant health setback is very painful to us. Stephen de Garavilla had been fighting to get better for a long time. Stephen de Garavilla had been battling an illness for quite some time and had been making slow but steady progress toward recovery. Stephen de Garavilla was a pivotal figure in the evolution of Wakefield during its entire history. He was one of the individuals who had the most influence on the city’s growth.
Stephen has been an ever-present figure on the sidelines in Wakefield during the course of the preceding 35 years. He has continued to coach and develop our youngest boys travel teams despite the fact that his children are no longer a part of the program. Despite this, he has been very involved in the program. He has supplied these teams with a constant approach to the game as well as a philosophy that has been helpful to many players throughout the course of their playing careers. This has been a significant contribution to the success of these teams. He had an unwavering dedication to the growth of his players, always working to implant the best habits in each and every one of them, and making it his responsibility to guide his players toward acquiring a more comprehensive understanding of the game.
His constant commitment to the growth of his players was one of the reasons he was such a successful coach. It is feasible to tell whether a person has been on one of Stephen’s teams only by looking at them and deciding for yourself whether or not they fit the description. His legacy will live on in Wakefield for a significant amount of time to come as a result of the fact that many of our more current or younger coaches have looked up to Stephen’s coaching philosophy throughout the course of the years. Stephen’s remarkable career as a volunteer coach has just been recognized on the state, regional, and national levels; he was nominated for and awarded the title of 2022 Coach of the Year at all levels of competition.
Stephen’s accomplishments as a volunteer coach have been recognized on all three levels: state, regional, and national. All three levels of competition have acknowledged Stephen’s achievements as a volunteer coach and thanked him for his contributions.
