Alex Joseph Mason Obituary, Death – On December 15, 2022, at the age of 74, Alex Joseph Mason of Caro, California, died away peacefully in the company of his family and friends in the comfort of his own home. At the moment of his demise, he was encircled by his family and Linda, the woman he had been married to for fifty-one years. On October 25, 1948, Joe was born in Mercer County, West Virginia; however, his family moved to Flint, Michigan when he was in elementary school. Joe has lived in Flint ever since.
Two pivotal events that took place not long after Joe graduated from high school would have a tremendous impact on the trajectory of his life. To begin, on the day that Joe graduated from high school, he went to an open house, and it was there that he met Linda Lewis, the lady with whom he would spend the rest of his life. The second time was when he was forced to join the Army against his will and served in the Infantry from 1969 until 1971.
After suffering multiple life-threatening wounds in Vietnam, he was honored for his service with not one, but two Purple Hearts, as well as the Military Merit Medal. Joe rarely talked about his time in the military, but on the few occasions that he did, he disclosed that while he was recovering from his injuries at Walter Reed, he made a solemn vow to God that, should he be granted another day of life, he would devote the rest of his life to helping those who were in need. If he was granted another day of life, he would spend the rest of his life helping those who were in need. At the time, no one had any clue how dramatically that transaction would affect not just his life but also the lives of a huge number of other people. After being gone for a while, he returned to the Flint area in 1971 to wed Linda and started a new life there.
